Apple Dumplings - Ilene McKenney
Dough:
2 1/2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup shortening 1 cup milk Apples: 4 cups chopped apples Syrup: 2 cups water 2 cups sugar 1 stick butter 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg |
Instructions:
1. Chop 4 cups of apples and set aside. 2. Mix syrup ingredients in a pot and melt on stovetop. 3. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients. Add shortening and blend, then add milk. 4. Roll dough on a floured surface, make 8" circles and fill with apples. 5. Place dumplings in a pan, pour syrup over dumplings, and cook at 350' for 30 mins. 6. Pour remaining syrup over cooked dumplings and serve hot or cold. |
